We here at Hālau Hula O Noelani want to wish everyone a Hau`oli Makahiki Hou (Happy New Year)! As we look forward to the road ahead, we take a brief moment to reflect on what 2014 brought for us. As a hālau, we grew in size with new haumana in our beginning women’s class and ukulele. We also began a brand new lokelani (rosebud) class of 4-7 year old girls being taught by a brand new instructor, the lead dancer in our advanced wāhine class. We also had the humbling opportunity to return to the Kumukahi Hula Festival in Las Vegas and not only brought home the awards for top Wāhine and Kāne Groups, but also the overall Spirit of Kumukahi award. From there, we participated for our first time as a hlau in the E Hula Mau competition in Long Beach, CA and even walked away from that having placed in Hawaiian Language and Lei Making. Overall, 2014 was a year of wonderful experiences that allowed us to grow closer as an `ohana in our hālau though new experiences and plenty of time spent together. So let us imua (move forward) with purpose and open hearts and minds for whatever 2015 brings us!
